2010 Camp Tutors

Guitar – Kevin Parsell

Kevin plays guitar for Appalachian Heaven and is a well known participant at all the Victorian bluegrass events. He is one of the most generous performers and tutors you will ever come across. He is well loved by many who have sought his help on their instruments for his unfailing positive encouragement and support. For the 2010 camp, Kevin prepared detailed support material for his classes with CD’s to take home to continue the learning.

Mandolin/Bluegrass Fiddle – Andrew Clermont

World class performer and instrumentalist, Andrew Clermont needs little introduction. Andrew has been mentoring players all through his career and we were thrilled to have him tutor at our first camp. It was also his first time performing at the Kelly Country Pick as he is generally touring Europe at this time of the year.

Bluegrass Banjo – Fred Hudson

Fred was on his way to attend his first Kelly Country Pick and generously offered his services tutoring at the camp before hand. Fred plays with the Redlands Bluegrass Boys and helps run the Redlands Bluegrass Convention in July each year. Another gentle, supportive teacher who was able to share his wealth of experience.

Clawhammer Banjo/ Old-Time Fiddle – CraigWoodward (Flying Engine Stringband/ Headbelly Buzzard)

In Victoria, Craig needs no introductions also, he is almost an institution unto himself. He tutors in old timey banjo and fiddle and runs a weekly old timey jam which is always well attended. Craig’s jam session at the Yarra Junction Fiddler’s Convention is the stuff of legends.

Double Bass – Peter Hisco (Bluegrass Souls / Hotwired/ Appalachian Heaven)

Festival Director Peter Hisco plays just about every instrument being studied at the camp and sings fabulous harmony but in particular is offering his services on the double bass. Peter fills in on the double bass at the drop of a hat for many acts at many festivals and events, providing that essential rhythm section which allows the instrumentalists to shine!

Singing and Harmony – Wendy Jackson (The Stringbeans/ Hotwired)

Festival Co-director Wendy Jackson is starting off each day with a wealth of information to share on singing, harmony and caring for your voice. Wendy performs in a number of musical line-ups singing lead and harmony has taught music and singing in schools. She is the driving force behind the camp and wants to provide intensive learning opportunities for participants and encourage everyone to strive to excel.
